Pro-choice?
Feb 28, 2025I’m The Real Jason Duncan, back with your weekly Beyond the Grind blog, where we help entrepreneurs like you build thriving businesses without sacrificing your freedom. đ
If you’ve been following along, we’ve been exploring my Five Freedoms Framework—a progression of resources every entrepreneur needs to master for true success and fulfillment.
Here’s a quick recap to get you up to speed:
The Five Freedoms are:
-
Energy – The foundation. Without it, none of the other freedoms matter.
-
Money – A renewable resource that helps us reclaim our time.
-
Time – Our most precious non-renewable resource.
-
Choice – The freedom to make decisions aligned with your values and goals.
-
Purpose – The ultimate freedom, where everything comes together.
As you read, I’d love for you to reflect on which of the Five Freedoms resonates with you the most. Leave a comment and let me know—I’m always excited to hear from you!
Previously, we talked about the freedoms of money and time, and how they work hand in hand.
BTW, If you missed it and want to see it for yourself, check it out here.
Last time, I emphasized how most people get it backward, spending their non-renewable resource (time) to earn a renewable one (money).
True freedom comes when you flip that equation.
This time, we’re diving into the final two freedoms: choice and purpose.
Freedom of Choice: The Power to Say "Yes" (and "No")
If energy, money, and time give you the capacity to live a life of freedom, choice is how you begin to direct it.
Freedom of choice is the ability to decide what you do, when you do it, with whom, and why.
On my podcast, The Root of All Success, I’ve interviewed nearly 300 entrepreneurs and asked every one of them what success means to them. The most common definition? The ability to decide what you do, when you do it, with whom, and why.
The freedom of choice is the power to say "no" to things that don’t align with your goals, aspirations, and values, and to fully commit to what matters most.
For example, think about a time when you said "yes" to something out of obligation or guilt. How did it feel? Now think about a time when you said "yes" to something that aligned perfectly with your values and desires. That difference is what freedom of choice is all about.
But know this: you can’t fully enjoy the freedom of choice without the freedom of time.
If your time is dictated by others—clients, bosses, or even well-meaning family members—you’re not truly free to choose how you spend it.
True choice comes when you’ve reclaimed your time, which often starts with achieving financial freedom. When you no longer have to ask money for permission to do what you want, your ability to make meaningful choices skyrockets.
The funny thing about choice is that it can feel overwhelming when you first experience it. That’s why it’s so important to align your choices with your values and goals.
When every decision is intentional, the freedom of choice becomes one of the most empowering resources you’ll ever have.
The freedom of choice is where true autonomy begins.
It’s about taking control of your life by aligning your decisions with your values, aspirations, and goals. With the first three freedoms in place – energy, money, and time – choice becomes a powerful tool to design a life that reflects what matters most to you.
It’s not just about saying "yes" or "no" but about intentionally shaping the direction of your life.
Freedom of Purpose: Living the Life You Were Designed For
The fifth freedom in my Five Freedoms Framework is freedom of purpose.
Once you’ve laid the foundation with energy, reclaimed your time and money, and begun making intentional choices, you’re ready to step into the ultimate freedom: your purpose.
With the distractions of survival—like financial stress or time scarcity—no longer holding you back, you’re free to focus fully on what you were created to do.
Freedom of purpose is about discovering, pursuing, and fulfilling your God-given purpose in life.
It’s not just about your business goals, financial aspirations, or even the surface-level "why" behind what you do.
This freedom dives much deeper—it’s about understanding why God created you the way He did and aligning your life with His design.
Here’s the truth: you can’t fully thrive in your purpose if you’re stuck merely surviving.
It’s hard to think about making an impact when you’re exhausted, broke, and overbooked. đą
That’s why the sequence of the Five Freedoms matters—each one lays the groundwork for pursuing your purpose without barriers.
Freedom of purpose comes when you’re no longer shackled by these limitations—when you have the energy, money, time, and ability to choose how to direct your focus.
Your purpose isn’t static. It evolves as you grow and step into new seasons of life.
Embracing this evolution is part of living a purposeful life.
The Five Freedoms in Action
Over the past weeks, I’ve introduced you to my Five Freedoms Framework and how they can transform your life and business.
-
Energy: The foundation. Without it, nothing else is possible.
-
Money: A renewable resource that helps reclaim your time.
-
Time: Your most precious non-renewable resource.
-
Choice: The power to make decisions aligned with your values.
-
Purpose: The ultimate freedom, allowing you to live a life of true fulfillment.
Here’s what I want you to take away:
You don’t have to pursue these freedoms in isolation, but you must pursue them intentionally and in balance.
This framework isn’t just for business. It’s for the life you want to create.
And when you approach these freedoms intentionally, they’ll transform your life.
Go beyond the grind,
The Real Jason Duncan đ
